How do I measure my chest?
1. Stand up straight with your arms hanging straight by your sides.
2. Breathing normally, have your friend wrap the tape measure under your armpits around the largest part of your chest.
3. In the back, you want the tape measure to wrap across your shoulder blades.
4. The tape measure should be snug, but not tight.
5. Add an inch to your measurement if you'd like a looser fitting jacket.

Numerical sizes, i.e. your typical 'suit sizes' like 40R, 44L, etc., refer to the garment's chest measurement in inches (US) or centimeters (IT). Italian sizes are halved for tidier listing, so an Italian size 50 has a chest measurement of 100 centimeters. This can be converted to an approximate US size by dividing by 2.54 (ex. 100cm / 2.54 = 39.4in).
Items marked with sizes Small, Medium, Large, etc., have been washed and hand-vintaged during production, so individual pieces--even of the same size--can have slight variances in fit, making their sizing more art than science. Like a sweater, they are apt to 'learn' their owner's form in time, with the natural give and take of wear.
