When Domenico Mazzarelli took over his father's tailoring shop, he inherited more than a fifty-five year old family business. Mazzarelli's home of Castellana Grotte, located in Apulia (the heel of Italy's 'boot'), has a storied tradition of artisan clothiers. Town history holds that, while directing the famed Castel del Monte's construction in the 12th century, the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II was so impressed by the local seamstresses' talent that he commissioned for all his clothing to be made in Castellana Grotte. Mazzarelli continues the living legacy of the "old-world way", and even have been honored to produce a bespoke commission for Pope Benedict XVI.
