Mazzarelli Shirts

When Domenico Mazzarelli took the helm of his family’s tailoring shop in Castellana Grotte, he inherited more than just a fifty-five year old business. Local legend holds that, during construction of his famed Castel del Monte in the 12th century, the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II was so impressed by the local seamstresses that he began commissioning all his clothing from them. Mazzarelli’s twenty-six tailors, cutters, and seamstresses carry that legacy with every stitch and stoke, reflecting the intimacy and care of the trade’s origins, when a bride would present a handmade and embroidered shirt as a wedding gift for her groom, the traditional “gift of love.”
